Dr Gott's Diet Plan

There are so many diets out there. Some are so detailed and restrictive that they are almost impossible to follow because it takes so much time and planning just to figure out what you are able to eat. Some diets entirely cut out whole categories of food, leaving you with an unhealthy, unbalanced eating plan. Dr. Gott's diet does neither of these things. It is very simple, all you have to remember is four words, "No, flour, No, sugar". The only things that are cut out are flour and sugar, both of which only provide you with empty calories, no nutritional benefits. Dr. Gott claims that just by cutting out flours and sugars you will be able to loose the recommended 1 to 2 pounds a week. True, on some fad or crash diets, you may loose more quickly that this, but most of the time this is done by a method that cannot be sustained, and then the pounds are gained back when you eventually cave. While meat and dairy products are allowed, Dr. Gott suggests, for optimal health, staying with low-fat varieties. I found a good deal of useful information in the book on diet and health in general, such as: the correct balance of protein, carbs, and fats, and a simple way of counter-secting your dinner plate to make sure you have the correct balance; weight loss methods which should be avoided; how the use of the diet may affect you if you suffer from specific medical conditions; how to calculate your BMI, and estimate a good goal weight; and how to read food labels. The last half of the book is full of recipes, and a meal plan to help you get started on this diet. The recipes look tasty and fairly simple. Dr. Gott is obviously a very knowledgeable and experienced man, and I felt he was able to impart this knowledge in an accessible way. The one thing I don't agree with him on is the use of artificial sweeteners, but I know that there are millions of people who regularly use these, and have no problem with it. Overall I think that this would be a simple and fairly healthy diet to follow. I personally cut out sugar in November, and with regular exercise, and a healthier diet, have managed to lose 35 lbs, so I know this can work.

Easy to read and follow even for vegetarians and vegans. My eating plan more or less contains : brown rice, barley, farro, kamut, olive oil, nuts, olives, beans, fruit, veggies, pickles, green/black/herbal teas, potatoes, etc. No calorie counting required.
Due to massive cravings for sugar and sugary things as well as white carbs ( crusty French bread, pasta, etc ) this is my 'last resort' eating plan.
A++++++
Finally some common sense If l am like anyone who has ever tried to lose weight only to end up miserable hungry and ultimately failing this book is for you
All other books and their madcap ideas like not eating carbs or not eating fat are just not workable and some are dangerous
I have been following this for about a month and having a sweettooth was surprisingly easy
As I could eat potatoes or rice I didn't feel rotten even the first week. Cutting out the cakes biscuits and sugar laden food helped balance my appetite
I am enjoying great results and would recommend this to anyone

I've been not eating gluten and sugar among other things anyway, so I figured I would check out to see what Dr. Gott says about the whole thing. Dr Gott thinks that you just need to eliminate all flour from your diet (so no bread, or pasta or tortillas, etc.) and all sugar and voila! No more excess weight. According to him, once you reach your goal weight, you can start eating bread products again, but not sugar. He does, however, think sugar substitutes are fine, something I find not fine. It was a pretty simple diet plan and it did inspire me to stop eating what were my calorie bombs of honey, coconut and peanut butter. If you aren't too attached to flour and sugar anyway, this might be the book for you.

This makes a lot of sense and is a quick and to the point read. I have been on it for 6 days now, and its not too hard. I just read the book today, so I actually could have been eating a bigger variety of things than I realized...making it even easier. Yes, you need to read all labels to check for sugar/syrups but I don't feel deprived. The facts/research in it are quite eye opening and sad really. The average American consumes 45 teaspoons of sugar per day (according to government studies)! We all really need to wake up and pay attention to what we are eating and even more importantly what we are feeding our kids.

Not bad. I liked another person's review: "The title says it all". I also liked that he basically stressed two points: 1) You have to reduce calories and/or increase exercise to lose weight and 2) weight loss takes a long time and you have to be satisfied with small losses over a decent amount of time - persistance pays off in the end.

Great simple concept but you really don't need the book. The title says it all....don't eat flour or sugar.
