Clickers System Overview

TurningPoint Clicker

The TurningPoint Clicker system is a way for instructors to gauge student retention on topics covered in class. Students use their wireless clicker device to enter their responses to an instructor's question. Students are required to use a supported clicker or, if allowed by the instructor, download the TurningPoint application to their mobile device. Students must register their clicker device and/or subscription to the Turning Technologies website. Students will find the registration link in their Canvas course.

Getting Started

  • Students should purchase a Turning Technologies QT2. The NXT clickers are also supported but are no longer manufactured. These are the ONLY clickers that will work on UNF campus.

  • Students can purchase a Turning Point QT2 clicker from the following places:

    • UNF Bookstore online or in-person (ISBN: 9780998819112)
    • Turning Technologies Web Store: To purchase a clicker and/or subscription from Turning Technologies website, visit the online store, enter in your email address (Example: N01234567@unf.edu), and click on Sign In. You will be directed to two purchasing options:
      • Option 1: Clicker and 5-year subscription bundle for $55 (plus shipping and handling starting at $8.50).
      • Option 2: 1-year subscription for $24.99. Only choose this option if you already have a clicker but not a subscription.
    • Other Students: Sometimes students will sell their clickers when they are done using them. This is usually okay, as long as students are not trying to share one clicker at the same time.

Note: If a student purchases a clicker second-hand, some device setting may need to be reset for the clicker to function properly. Please see the student help section for more information.

  • Students can purchase clickers from the bookstore. Students can purchase a clicker and 5-year subscription bundle for $73.50. Turning Technologies also provides an online store to purchase a subscription and clicker. Students can purchase a clicker and 5-year subscription bundle from TurningPoint for $55 (plus shipping and handling starting at $8.50). To purchase a clicker and subscription from Turning Technologies website, visit the online store, enter in your email address (Example: N01234567@unf.edu), and click on Sign In. You will be directed to a clicker and a 5-year subscription bundle.

The cost of the subscription for the TurningPoint app can be purchased from the TurningPoint online store, for $24.99 for a one-year subscription. Students must register devices through Canvas. If a student used the clickers previously through Blackboard, they will need to use the link provided by the instructor to log in through Canvas.

  • Students should follow these instructions to register their clickers in Canvas before the first class:

    1. Purchase a QT2 clicker device.
    2. Log into your Canvas course that you will be using clickers for.
    3. Click on Modules.
    4. Navigate to the Clicker Registration module.
    5. Click on the link to the Turning Technologies Registration.
    6. Verify your information and select STUDENT as your role from the dropdown menu, click "Create Account" -- you MUST use your UNF email address. Enter the device ID from the back of your clicker. It is a 6 digit code of letters and numbers. Enter your subscription code.
    7. Complete your registration by clicking the green Register button.
  • Students can purchase a TurningPoint subscription from Turning Technologies. To purchase a subscription from Turning Technologies website, visit the online store, enter in your email address (Example: N01234567@unf.edu), and click on Sign In. You will be directed to a 1-year subscription that can be purchased for $24.99.

Access codes can also be purchased during the registration process in Canvas, where they will be asked to enter a registration code, or prompted to buy one if they do not already have one.

    Students cannot share Clickers.

Students must each have their own device. Clickers are registered in Canvas courses and tied to a student in a class roster. You may not share one clicker device among multiple people.

  • Important Note: Make sure that your instructor allows use of the TurningPoint app. Not all professors allow use of the TurningPoint app.

    • Download the TurningPoint app from the IOS or Android app store.
    • Login using your UNF email (example: N01234567@unf.edu)
    • Purchase a subscription from Turning Technologies.

Troubleshooting and Help

  • Your Device ID is located on the back of your clicker underneath the barcode. It is a six-digit combination of letters and numbers. It can be changed internally by following the steps below. 1. Click the wrench icon on the right side of the clicker screen.
    2. Use the left and right arrows to navigate through the menu options until you reach your ID.
    3. Click Enter.
    4. You can now type in your N#, name or other identifying information that your professor requests.
    5. Once you have entered the information, click the Enter button and wait until the check mark appears on the screen.
  • To change the channel on a clicker:

    1. Select the Channel button on the left side of the clicker.
    2. When prompted, type in the new channel number.
